About this website

Hey! Welcome to the czeched.cz website! We are glad to see you. Do you want to learn Czech? Do you want to improve or practice your Czech? Then you're in the right place.

Who is this website for? Why did we decide to create this website? What can you find here? You'll find out in our first podcast. If you don't know Czech yet, you can read the translation of this episode in English or Spanish.

Who is this website for?

The czeched.cz website is primarily intended for people who are learning Czech as a foreign language. If you are learning Czech because you live, work or study in the Czech Republic, have family in the Czech Republic or are interested in foreign languages and Czech is a challenge for you, you are in the right place!

Our goal is to help you as much as possible on your way to fluency in Czech. On the website, we offer you a range of fun and effective materials, a blog and podcast, an app, and the support of a community of students and teachers. You'll also find lots of tips on how to study effectively, how to stay motivated and what materials to use.

If you're a teacher of Czech as a foreign language, this site might be useful for you too. You can find a variety of useful materials here, or you can recommend our blog and podcast or our app to your students. You can also participate in the community forum discussions and help students.

Why did we decide to create this website?

There are relatively few materials for learning Czech, especially for beginner levels. The materials that do exist often look like they are for beginners, but actually use unnecessarily complex or unhelpful vocabulary and grammar.

In addition, in today's modern world, computers and elements of artificial intelligence can be used to increase the effectiveness of teaching. However, as with other materials, the supply of apps with comprehensive Czech language courses is poor. Probably the most well-known foreign language learning app unfortunately has many unnecessary sentences in its Czech course, such as "His horse is black and white." or "Do men wear pink shirts?", which makes the student waste time that they could spend on useful words and phrases.

We believe that there is a big room for new, high-quality and effective materials as well as a new application, which is why we decided to start this website.

What parts does this website have?

This website currently has two main parts. The first part is an application for learning Czech from the very basics. The app contains focused lessons that teach you gradually how to communicate in Czech. The second part of the website is our blog and podcast for Czech language learners, where we talk about interesting topics related to learning Czech, Czech culture, society, history or traditions.

Our application

The czeched.cz app was developed specifically for teaching Czech to foreigners. It offers a Czech course starting from scratch, i.e. for complete beginners. In the course you will learn reading, listening and Czech vocabulary from the basics. You will also practice writing and speaking.

What is special about the app? The app uses modern approaches to language teaching and insights into human learning to maximize learning efficiency and minimize effort. Careful, no language can be learned without certain effort. But what we are saying is that you need to focus your effort in the right direction. Unlike other apps, our app selects the most useful vocabulary, grammar and other skills for your current level.

In addition, our app minimizes the use of other languages when learning. The app will teach you some words using English (or another language you choose), but you'll learn most words from context, pictures or dialogues. If you keep translating into your language as you learn, you'll never start thinking in Czech, which is necessary to become fluent.

What do you need to do to use the app? Just sign up on our website and you can start learning right away!

Our podcast and blog

You can find a range of other materials in the podcast and blog section. In our podcast we regularly publish posts about learning Czech or about interesting topics from Czech culture, history, traditions and society. Each episode of the podcast has a transcript that serves as a blog post. So you can practice both listening and reading!

The podcast episodes are divided into different categories - for example, grammar, vocabulary or culture. The episodes in the grammar category explain the grammar of the Czech language using different examples. Episodes in the vocabulary category help you understand tricky words, phrases or idioms. The culture category offers interesting information about what Czech culture, history and traditions are like. The important thing is that the podcast includes topics directly related to learning Czech, as well as other interesting topics that we talk about in Czech and for which we provide a transcription.

For each episode it is written for which level it is intended. Some of the topics will be treated very simply, so that even a complete beginner can understand them. Other topics will be described in a slightly more complex way so that even more advanced students can learn something new.

If you don't understand a specific word in the transcription, you can click on it and a card will appear with its translation, part of speech, picture and conjugation or declension. The translation is displayed in the language of the site, which you can switch to English or Spanish.

How can you use the podcast and blog? Go to the podcast section, select the episode you are interested in and click on it. You can then simply play the podcast recording and follow the transcript or just read the podcast text as a blog post.

Our vision for the future

We would like to provide everyone with the opportunity to learn Czech from high quality materials. Our ambition is to offer the best free website for learning Czech that exists.

We plan to continuously work on our podcast and blog and add new posts regularly. We will be expanding the Czech course on our app to the highest possible level. We would like to build a community of Czech learners and teachers where people can help each other on their journey to becoming fluent in Czech.

Are you interested in a topic or have a problem with a particular grammar, phrase or idiom? Email us at info@czeched.cz and we'll look at the topic in a future episode of our podcast or cover it in our app! Do you have something else to tell us? Email us too! We're interested in all suggestions.

Conclusion

That's all for today. I hope you enjoyed today's podcast. Remember, there are more podcast episodes and a Czech learning app available on our website. If you have any questions or requests, don't hesitate to contact us.

Have a great day, good luck and enjoy your Czech studies. See you next time!
